The nine-time placegetter steps up to 2200m in her quest to break through for her first win at start 20.
Scandalous hit the line powerfully in her first attempt past 1600m when second behind Kandhu over 1975m at Waikouaiti on New Year’s Day.
Prince hopes the extra 225m of race 3 will give her the staying distance she needs to win for rider Jason Laking.
“It’s her first time over 2200m and I don’t think it will worry her,” Prince said.
“She is bred to stay, being by Shocking from a High Chaparrel mare.
“Her mother won over 2000m and she relaxes pretty well, so she should get the trip.”
Scandalous has a similar record to her dam, High Jinks.
High Jinks could not win in nine attempts over 1600m or less before winning twice over 2000m, before heading to the broodmare paddock.
Scandalous’ Waikouaiti effort suggests she is set to follow in her mother’s footsteps now that she will be tested over 2000m and further.
“She went a great race at Waikouaiti and she probably should have won,” Prince said.
“She got wiped out of a gap and had to come back around them and it probably told in the end.”
Picture This will attempt to break his maiden in race 8 over 1600m for Prince and Laking.
Like Scandalous, the galloper did not have clear running in the home straight during his last race, running into traffic problems when seventh at Omakau earlier this month for rider Lee Callaway.
“Lee got off him and said if he had got out, he would have been in the first three, Prince said.
“I think he could be a big hope [today].”
Blinkers have helped sharpen Scandalous, while they have had the opposite effect on Picture This leading into today’s meeting.
Prince noticed an immediate impact when removing them from the Picture This’ bridle.
“I changed a bit of gear on him — he had blinkers on when he came down from up north.
“I have taken them off and he has gone his two best races.”
Prince has followed Laking’s advice in starting Mustard over 1600m in race 7.
“Jason got off him after his last start at Waikouaiti and was adamant the horse wants 1600m.
“That is surprising, going on his work at home, because he can really sprint.
“But we are giving him his chance today over 1600m and we will see if Jason is right.”
Prince also hopes 1600m will be to the liking of Cocee when she jumps from barrier 6 for rider Doni Prastiyou in race 9.
“1600m is her go. She has gone two good races this time in and she has got a good barrier draw.”
Prince rates all of his five-strong team handy chances at today’s meeting.
He is most concerned about Mint Julep in race 5.
The filly clearly has the ability to figure in the finish, but must overcome a horror draw in barrier 15 for rider Brett Murray.
“It is a sticky gate, to be fair,” the trainer said. “I know it is only a number, but it is a number that can beat.
“We will probably have to go back with her. If you dig her up, she could end up three or four wide the trip.”
