Gore Guineas runner-up Live Drama will need to overcome a wide draw if her trainer Lance Robinson’s patient planning is to pay off at Wingatui tomorrow.

The Ghibellines filly will be stuck out in barrier 12 when the field for the Otago Racing Club’s annual listed fillies event is let go from its 1400m starting point.

Live Drama goes into the $50,000 feature after beating race rival Miss Federer on her home track following her agonisingly close second in the Guineas.

The 3yr-old and rider Terry Moseley looked the winners of last month’s Gore feature until Lightning Jack produced a huge late finish to claim victory in the last metres of the race.

Live Drama was brilliant in second after racing close to a ridiculously fast speed set up by the leaders.

Robinson was left wondering what might have been after Moseley reported the filly had more to offer in the straight.

"Honestly, I don’t think she saw the other horse coming," Robinson said.

"It rushed at her out wide and she didn’t really see it coming; she was back down on the fence.

"Terry said she had a little bit more in hand if need be, but she had got to the line and pricked her ears and she was ready to win it and the other horse flashed home out wide."

Despite her good effort, Robinson was not tempted to press on to the Dunedin or Southland Guineas with his filly.

Live Drama saw off Miss Federer in her next start at Riccarton, reeling her in in the straight.

The filly has thrived since than run, continuing the progress she has made over the past two months.

"We are really happy with our filly; she has stepped up a lot since Gore," Robinson said.

"Her work was fantastic on Tuesday morning.

"I think she will be very competitive."

Invercargill filly Asathought, who starts from barrier 1, also brings southern guineas form to tomorrow’s 1400m event.

The Lisa Vaughan trained 3yr-old was unlucky in the Southland Guineas earlier this month when starved of room early in the straight.

Bronte Beach (barrier 16) and All About Magic (barrier 7) also bring form from the Southern Guineas Triple Crown.

North Island raiders Trifolium and Siracusa do not.

Trifolium comes south for Marton trainer Fraser Aurett after comfortably winning her last start in 3yr-old company over 1300m at Tauherenikau.

That win followed Trifolium’s big effort for sixth behind top-line fillies Showbeel, Loire and Jennifer Eccles in the group 3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham after racing wide.

Siracusa treks south from Maungatautari for trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie to start for the first time since November.

The 3yr-old was a creditable fourth in the group 3 Wellington Stakes at Otaki in her last run.

Siracusa has drawn beside Live Drama in barrier 13.

Trifolium looks much better off in gate 4.
