When a gap appeared between runners in the home straight in the 1500m listed feature, Moseley urged his horse through to take it before the favourite, Weaponry, got the same run.
The move proved to be the winning of the race as Air Max scorched to the finish while Weaponry was still looking for clear air.
Trainer Lance Robinson said he had some nervous moments before Moseley worked his 3yr-old out of a tight spot.
"My only concern was when I saw him start to get hemmed in approaching the straight.
"Terry said to me afterwards that he was getting into trouble from as far out as the 900m mark but when he got him into the clear, he just went whoosh."
Air Max has now won the first two races in the triple crown of Southern Guineas races. He produced a big win in contrasting conditions on a soft Gore track in the Gore Guineas last month.
His Dunedin Guineas victory proved that was no fluke and also showed he may be even more potent on a firm surface.
"I’m just so pleased to see him do that, as I’ve always said he’s better on top of the ground," Robinson said.
"He got back the other day, only because he got checked early in the race, but with a good draw I can’t see why he can’t get a good run behind the speed and then find the line.
"He has come on since that race."
Upscale launched a big late run for second, three-quarters of a length behind the winner.Highly Unlikely took third ahead of the unlucky fourth placegetter, Weaponry.
