Society Lady has only won two races from four starts but her trainer Stephen McKee has a good case for starting the 3yr-old filly in the Lion Red Plate, a listed weight-for-age 1200m race tomorrow.
Three-year-old fillies have won the race six times in the past eight years. McKee has trained three of those winners - Pay My Bail (2003), Solvini (2006) and Raid (2008).
Society Lady is the mount of Trudy Thornton, who won the race in 1999 as Trudy Collett on the 3yr-old filly, Catamarca.
The other 3yr-old filly in the field tomorrow is Ready Steady, who is starting fresh after a win and a fourth in two starts at 2.
She is the mount of Danielle Johnson, who won the race last year on the 3yr-old filly Twilight Savings.
Vonusti, who finished second, is in blinkers tomorrow after a useful effort fresh-up for sixth at Hastings.
• James McDonald, who rode four winners at Hastings yesterday, has engagements at Pukekohe today and Caulfield tomorrow. His mounts at Caulfield are Sangster (Norman Robinson Stakes) and Pentimento (Ethereal Stakes).
• Hoofit won the grade three $US250,000 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland last week, his second win in as many starts in the United States.
The win qualified him for the $US2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint.
The Phoenix Stakes was over 1200m. The Graham Motion-trained Hoofit won his other start over 1100m last month.
Hoofit (Mossman-Chuckle) won the Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie last season when trained by Stephen McKee.
• Didnotcostalot set a track record of 1.02.32 for 1100m when having his first start yesterday at Wyong, AAP reports.
The 3yr-old, trained by Marc Conners, won by five and a-half lengths. Didnotcostalot, who cost $A3000 as a yearling, bettered the previous record of 1.02.33 set by Rose Of Kings in 2005. He is by the Danehill stallion Danerich.
"There is loads of improvement in him because he did a few things wrong," Jeff Penza, his jockey, said.
