Canterbury apprentice Rafi Firdhaus has ended his riding tenure in New Zealand.

Firdhaus has returned to his native Singapore after almost completing a two-year stint in New Zealand.

The 31-year-old's two-year tenure was cut short after he was suspended from riding indefinitely.

Firdhaus was licensed to ride by and suspended by the Singapore Turf Club.

His suspension was not related to racing incidents in New Zealand, chief thoroughbred stipendiary steward John Oatham said.

New Zealand authorities were asked to invoke the terms of the suspension here.

It is understood Firdhaus has a disagreement with the Singapore Turf Club, Oatham said.

The jockey won 28 races from 361 rides in New Zealand.

Arguably his most memorable moment in the saddle here came when he miscounted the laps of a race at Hokitika aboard Locally Sauced.

The incident captured the attention of the national mainstream media.
