The speedster has headed to the spelling paddock and will not contest the New Zealand Cup or the Interdominions.
The Art Major-Foreal entire will target the defence of his Miracle Mile title at Menangle in February instead.
The 6yr-old, owned by Mosgiel's Syd and Shona Brown, was being considered for a spring campaign, but two defeats at the Queensland winter carnival have resulted in that idea being shelved.
''The first night he ran a strange race from his point of view, from what his standards are. We couldn't find anything wrong with him. His bloods were good and his scope was clear,'' Syd Brown said.
''The second night he basically just got wiped out at the 400m.''
A potentially busy spring racing calendar played a part in the decision to spell the horse.
''Tim and I had a discussion and both came to the same conclusion that we will give him the chance to let down completely and have a good spell,'' Brown said.
''We would have targeted the Victoria Cup and it's in the third week in October. He would have only been able to have a 10-day or fortnight spell.
'' So he is going to go to the paddock until October and then he will come back and get ready for the Christmas, January and February races.
Field Marshal's brilliant 1.46.9 Miracle Mile win is the fastest mile run by a standardbred in the southern hemisphere.
''To a certain extent you set a benchmark and they expect you to come up to it each time, but they are horses not machines,'' Brown said.
Hopes of another pacer with an Otago connection returning from Australia for the New Zealand Cup have also been dashed.
Former Otago horse of the year Titan Banner has been spelled after Sydney trainer John McCarthy was unsatisfied with how he was progressing following a fractured pedal bone.
''It's a crying shame as this year looks like being an open cup,'' former trainer and part-owner Graeme Anderson told NZ Harness News.
''John brought him back in and jogged him up for a while but we decided to turn him out again.
''He was happy enough at the start, but it was decided we would be extra cautious with him and give him a full year out.''
Titan Banner was diagnosed with a fractured pedal bone when set to race in Australia in January for trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen .
