Canterbury junior driver Mark Hurrell has the chance to hit peak form at Forbury Park tonight ahead of the New Zealand Junior Drivers Championships.

Hurrell will begin his attempt to better his third placing in last year's competition in the first two of the championship's four heats at Addington tomorrow night.

The former Southlander has six chances tonight to get in the winning groove.

Miss Bamboocha, who starts in race 6, looks one of the best-placed horses Hurrell will combine with.

The Craig Laurenson-trained trotter resumed with a tidy fourth placing behind Ardee Trouble at the same track last week.

Hurrell said he expected the horse, who had been away from the races since March, to be an even better prospect this week.

''I was really happy with her run last week and she was still a little bit on the big side, condition wise,'' he said.

''I would say we should take a bit of improvement from that.''

Hurrell said Miss Bamboocha had started in stronger fields than she meets tonight - and he thought that drop back in class should make her hard to beat.

''Earlier in the season, she was running second to horses like Wee Man Trouble. So with improvement she should be there or thereabouts.''

Hurrell will attempt to continue the excellent form he and trainer Syd Breen have produced this season at Forbury Park.

American Mac disappointed in his last start for the pair at the Dunedin track.

Hurrell said that run for fifth was best forgotten.

A similar run to his previous effort for second behind the smart Take A Bet was expected tonight.

''He actually pulled up with a stone bruise and that is why he hasn't raced for the last few weeks.

''I wouldn't worry about that last run too much, he was going pretty well before that.''

Rosinupthebow starts for the Breen-Hurrell combination in race 7.

She drops massively in class after chasing the smart Go Kiwi at the track last week.

''We are following out a couple that do not have much gate speed, so she is probably going to get pushed back in the field a bit,'' Hurrell said.

''If we can get up handy without doing work and she can out-tough a couple of the other ones, hopefully she will be there or thereabouts.''

Breen and Hurrell will also combine with Phil's Last Chance, an each-way chance in race 3.

Hurrell will then steer Iron Woman for the first time in race 5.

The reinsman's night will finish after he combines with Thaboyz Toy in race 9.

The Tony Stratford-trained pacer should give his backers a good sight if he can step away from barrier 1.

''He sometimes can be a bit hesitant from inside draws,'' Hurrell said.

''A few starts back he led up and won, so if he can bring that sort of form back again he would be hard to beat.''

Hurrell looks to have drawn two solid chances in the first two heats of the New Zealand Junior Drivers Championships at Addington tomorrow.

He will drive Bright Glow in heat 1 and Jetenara in heat 2.
