Riverton trainers Graham and Michael Eade look poised for success at today’s Oamaru meeting.
The trainers line up Colour Me Red in race 2 and Orepuki Lad in race 8. Both will be ridden by Wingatui jockey Jacob Lowry.
Colour Me Red could be rewarded for the consistent start he has made to his career.
The horse has placed in all three of his races so far and looks a huge chance of running in the top three in today’s 2200m maiden event.
‘‘I think he will go well. I don’t think the track will hurt him too much — his mother was a mudlark,’’ Graham Eade said.
‘‘He is quite a nice little horse.
‘‘He has filled out since we first got him; he is quite strong now.’’
The Oamaru track has had a heavy 11 rating this week and looks set to remain in that state today.
Keyboard Warrior and Fiendish also look solid chances in race 2.
Tatum, who has performed consistently in her recent starts, looks the main horse for Colour Me Red to beat.
Unlike Colour Me Red, the Shane Kennedy and Anna Furlong-trained mare is untested on heavy tracks.
Orepuki Lad looks a strong each-way chance in race 8 over 1600m.
The horse would be an even better prospect if he had his mind fully on racing.
With only four starts behind him, the horse is still inexperienced and yet to fully figure out what racing is about.
‘‘He is also coming into his own. The rider got off him a while back and said he was only 50% switched on and once he develops a bit more in the head, he is going to go through the grades,’’ Eade said.
‘‘You watch him and he is very good mover and a big-striding horse.’’
‘‘His work has been very good.’’
Valentina Victoria looks a big player in race 8 after charging into third placing on a heavy track at Wingatui in her most recent start.
Patricia Rose failed when she was stepped up to 2000m in her previous start, but has a chance to atone over 1600m today.
In today’s feature event, the first on the card, five horses clash in an intriguing rating 80 affair over 2200m.
Kings Pal looks a strong chance in the race after his good second in the Waimate Cup.
The drop back to rating 80 company and senior rider Samantha Collett riding him means the horse must carry the testing weight of 59.5kg, 7.5kg more than in his last start.
Kings Pal and last-start Wingatui winner Ablaze, on 59kg, will have to carry significantly more than their three rivals.
The Kelvin Tyler duo of Tilly Dunnage and Sir Ed will carry just 52.5kg and 51kg respectively in the race.
Shezatoucha will carry 54kg thanks to in-form apprentice Tina Comignaghi’s 2kg claim.
