Williams will reunite with regular drive Dream About Me after getting an inside look at the form of Captain Dolmio in last week’s New Brighton Cup at Addington.
Before that race there were only short margins between the pair when they filled the second and third placings in the first two-open class races of the season behind Thefixer.
Captain Dolmio went on to run fifth in the New Brighton Cup while Dream About Me sat out that race before tomorrow’s 2600m standing start feature.
One thing Williams learned from the catch drive behind Captain Dolmio was he and Dream About Me will need similar runs to win the Hannon.
Captain Dolmio was surprisingly out of the first three placing in the New Brighton Cup and Williams put that down to the slow speed of the race.
"It was probably run against his general pattern and if it was more of a genuine 2600m it might have helped him," Williams said.
"It was a bit stop-start and going off his previous races you probably couldn’t read a lot into it."
A faster pace in tomorrow’s event is exactly what Dream About Me is looking for.
Although she had a nice run in the one-one in her most recent start in the Maurice Holmes Vase she was unable to beat stablemate Thefixer who sat outside the leader.
"You could probably say she had her chance the other day," Williams said.
"She sat in the one-one and when they run home that way it is no advantage to her.
"Obviously it comes down to the way the race is run on Sunday."
Dream About Me sat out the New Brighton Cup because trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen wanted to give her a slight freshen as she heads towards the New Zealand Cup.
The week off has agreed with her and she will go in to the Hannon in excellent order, Williams said.
"She has had two runs under her belt this time and she is getting fitter each time.
"The first two races were week to week so Mark just thought he would space her races out a wee bit and she seems good."
Should tomorrow’s feature not provide a strong pace that would suit Dream About Me and Captain Dolmio then a repeat of last week’s New Brighton Cup result looks likely.
Winner Letsspendanighttogetha and runner-up A G’s White Socks were brilliant when sprinting off a slow speed in that event to fill the top two placings. Both horses should strip fitter and better prospects in tomorrow’s event.
A G’s White Socks, a proven group race performer, had only had the benefit of one soft trial leading into last week’s second placing.
Letsspendanighttogetha was having his first serious race in three starts as he took no part in his two standing starts prior to his blowout win.
Those botched starts will make punters less confident about backing him tomorrow despite his brilliant last-start victory.
His stablemate, Alta Orlando, went a good race in the New Brighton Cup and is a reasonable place chance tomorrow.
Don Domingo, Locharburn and Billy Badger also competed in the New Brighton Cup and would need to lift their games to feature tomorrow.
Go Davey, Zadaka and Queen Bee Bardon will face the South Island’s New Zealand Cup-bound pacers for the first time this season in tomorrow’s race.
Hometown open-grade trotters Monty Python and Alderbeck will return for their first runs of the season in tomorrow’s feature trot.
The clash with leading hopes The Dominator, Hey Yo and Muscles Galore who all have the benefit of a prior run going into the 2600m handicap.
