Ex-North Island galloper Reevederci showed he was in for big winter when producing an impressive win in the last race at Wingatui yesterday.
The 3yr-old, who was good enough to finish third to the classy Melt in the group 3 North Island Breeders Stakes earlier this season, showed his class when winning his second South Island start in a rating 65 event over 1400m.
Reevederci was having his second start since joining the Invercargill stable of Jo-Anne Dalton.
Dalton deflected any praise for getting the Reevederci back into form on to the horse.
"He is a lovely horse. I am a bit spoilt to have got him down from the North Island," the trainer said.
Rider Brett Murray had Reevederci on the rail before he worked him into the clear in the home straight.
Once Murray had the horse balanced, Reevederci let down for a comfortable win.
"He is a very smart horse.
He loved the track; he was trotting the whole way," the jockey said.
"I will definitely be trying to stay on him."
Reevederci ran a fair sixth at Wingatui in his first start from Dalton's stable.
Murray said the galloper found the track too puggy that day.
Murray was narrowly denied a winning double when Battle Man was beaten by a half-head margin by Ringbolt in maiden company over 1200m in race 6.
