Allan Beck, the Winton trainer, has been fined $10,000 and ordered to pay costs of $500 over a positive test returned by his horse, Call Of Duty.
Call Of Duty was disqualified from second placing in the race at Invercargill on September 20. Call Of Duty tested positive to Aminorex and Levamisole.
Aminorex is described as a stimulant drug and an equine metabolite of Levamisole.
Beck told Racing Integrity Unit investigator Barry Kitto that he administered what he thought was 20mls of Levicare High Mineral to Call Of Duty about midday three days before the race because the horse had a cough. Beck said he was sure he was outside the withholding time.
It was found that the syringe he used in fact was of 35ml volume. Kitto said the withholding time for Levamisole had been increased to four days a few weeks before Beck had made the administration. Kitto emphasised the need for trainers to seek advice from veterinarians as to withholding times.
The previous detection (witholding) time for Aminorex, dated December 23, 2010, in a list to veterinarians, was three days plus a 24-hour buffer.
