Duncan's Dodgers had a thriller walk-off win in a tense finish at Hancock Park yesterday.

The scores were tied at 2-2 heading into the final inning of the men’s Aran Bailey Memorial final.

The Dodgers, Bailey’s former club which got back together for the tournament, had escaped a jam as Christchurch’s PCU Devils had bases loaded in the seventh.

Then the Dodgers responded.

They got runners into scoring position, before a Ben Watts single brought home Josh Lubiejewski for the winning run.

Earlier the Dodgers had taken a 2-0 lead, before PCU evened the scores heading into the sixth inning.

A big third inning helped the Halswell Hornets to a 8-2 victory over the PCU Angels in the women’s Ima Hodges Memorial final.

The Hornets led 1-0, after Finlay Martin brought in the opening run in the first inning.Her bat that brought in the second runner again in the third, before a Melissa Chapman double brought in two to make it 4-0. An Alyssa Lory hit made it 5-0 in the fourth and while PCU pulled back two then, that was all, as Halswell pulled away.

Otago Softball’s annual tournament attracted teams from Invercargill and Christchurch, as well as Dunedin.
