It has been a busy week for Waves swimmer Carina Doyle, who has competed in surf life-saving at the beach and the New Zealand age group championships in the pool.

Last Saturday she was a member of the St Clair surf life-saving team with Carla and Stephanie Laughton that won the tube rescue race at the national surf rescue series at Warrington Beach.

She then flew to Wellington to prepare for the swimming championships that started on Tuesday and has won a complete set of national championship medals.

On Tuesday she won a bronze medal in the girls aged 17 and 18 400m freestyle (4min 24.05sec), on Wednesday a silver medal in the 100m freestyle (59.02sec) and on Thursday a gold medal in the 200m freestyle (2min 04.61sec).

The 200m was swum to perfection and was a personal best time by five seconds.

The race plan was worked out with her coach Andy Adair.

"I wanted Carina to be relaxed for the first 100m," Adair said.

Doyle was fifth when she passed the 100m in 1min 01.93sec but then applied pressure and caught up with the leaders in the third 50m.

She started her sprint after this and shot to the front and completed the last 50m in 30.63sec to win by over a second from Lisa Catto (Hokonui) and Nicole Jopson (North Shore).

Doyle returns to Dunedin tomorrow, has two days rest, and then travels to Gisborne on Wednesday for the New Zealand surf life-saving championships.

The aim is to gain selection in the New Zealand surf life-saving team to compete at the world championships.

Jeremy Hopkins (Neptune) added one more title and two more Otago records on the third night of the championships. He has broken five Otago records so far.

He won a gold medal in the 400m individual medley to break Jonathon Duncan's 1996 record of 5min 00.74sec with a time of 4min 58.35sec.

He then won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle and broke Rhys Applegarth's 2004 Otago record of 58.13sec in a time of 57.58sec.
