
The Stampede had a 10-2 win against Dunedin Thunder on Friday, followed by an 8-3 victory against them in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League on Saturday.
Colin McIntosh was strong across both games for the Stampede, racking up two goals and five assists to remain top of the league for assists.
Matthew Schneider also starred, scoring four goals.
The Thunder got off to a great start on Friday in Queenstown, when captain Matt Enright scored to lead 1-0.
But the Stampede hit back 40sec later when Schneider scored his first of the game and from there it was one-way traffic.
Josh Hurley scored his first of the season, Schneider banged in his second and import Brendan Walkom added another.
Suddenly the Stampede were up 5-1 at the end of the first.
They came out strongly from the break, as Walkom added another followed by import Jeff Solow.
Thunder found the back of the net again through Luc Taillon and closed the gap until Logan Campbell scored again for the Stampede and the home side led 8-2 at the end of the second.
Connor Harrison added another and Cameron Trew finished with a penalty shot in the third period.
The Thunder created opportunities for themselves, having 42 attempts to the Stampede’s 44, but just could not find the openings.
They put in a gallant effort on Saturday.
Schneider drew first blood for the Stampede and Cameron Trew added another in the power play, when the Thunder were down a player.
Thunder import Will Ellis added a late goal for the visitors and closed the gap to 2-1 at the break.
Charlie Lilly scored for the Thunder in a power play, with the Stampede down a player, early in the second period.
That levelled the scores and the Thunder strung it together nicely.
But Schneider added another to his tally, followed by Solow, Walton and McIntosh last in the period for the home side to lead 6-2.
McIntosh scored in again in the third, followed by CJ Kemp to extend to a 8-2 lead.
Thunder’s Jackson Flight scored a late goal.
