Black Sox outfielder Campbell Makea made a winning start in his cameo appearance in the Dunedin premier competition on Saturday.
Makea, beginning a short pre-Christmas stint, hit a two-run triple at the top of the seventh inning to lead Ellis Park Gold to a 5-3 win over Dodgers.
Makea was also walked twice in his first game of the season after receiving a temporary clearance from Softball New Zealand.
Dodgers, the only winless team in the competition, had taken a 3-1 lead through five innings, with Ben Watts in control on the mound and Jamie Robinson firing a clutch run-scoring triple with two out.
But a change in pitcher led to a messy sixth inning, with Ellis Park Gold youngster Will Meiklejohn scoring on a wild pitch and Adam Mathieson coming home on a full-base walk.
Makea's triple batted in father-and-son duo Peter and Adam Mathieson, and Peter Mathieson then pitched out the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
Dodgers missed the opportunity to break their duck but there was a neat achievement for the Watts family, with brothers Ben, Cameron and Matthew each scoring runs.
Ellis Park Gold scored its second win of the day when it pipped Cardinals 3-1.
Cardinals scored in the first inning before King's High School pupil Meiklejohn singled, stole and scored to reply for Ellis Park.
Makea then hit a sacrifice fly for Gary Pointon to give the Gold side the lead.
Pointon scored the only other run in a pitching-dominated game when he was brought home by a Sean Martin single in the bottom of the third.
Ellis Park Gold, Ellis Park Maroon and Cardinals all have identical 2-1 records, though Maroon has two extra bonus points.
Maroon again unleashed some powerful bats to storm to a 19-9 win over Saints (2-2).
In a bizarre beginning to the game, both sides scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second.
Cory Blake hit two homers and Ryan Williams one for Ellis Park, while Saints' Michael O'Neill hit a two-run triple.
Ellis Park Maroon belted three more runs, including a Wayne Vial dinger, at the top of the fourth, and eight in a scattergun sixth inning containing four hits and three errors.
Cardinals blanked Saints 8-0 in five innings, with some consistent small-ball offence and a shut-out performance from pitcher Sam Willis.
