Skeleton racers Katharine Eustace, of Wanaka, and Ben Sandford, of Rotorua, were in golden form this weekend, winning two gold medals each in America's Cup competition at Lake Placid.
Sandford was the firm favourite going into the event after winning at Calgary a fortnight ago. He had the four fastest times of the heats and dominated the field of Americans and Canadians.
Eustace achieved three of the fastest push times and a personal best to win her gold medals. She had not raced in Calgary two weeks ago because she was training at Whistler.
'It was great to do well in my first races of the season, and also doing a personal best in the push was great for my confidence it shows the off-season training has paid off," she said.
Eustace will race her first World Cup race in Winterberg in two weeks' time.
Sandford will join the World Cup circuit after Christmas. Both also intend to compete at the World Championships at Lake Placid in February.
