As touch continues to grow in Otago, so do the accolades coming the region’s way.

Otago dominated the South Island secondary school championships recently, with four Dunedin schools reaching the top four in the boys and girls grades.

St Hilda’s and King’s were crowned champions, winning their respective grades in Christchurch.

It was an exciting spectacle for Otago having an all-girls final, with St Hilda’s beating Dunedin rival Columba 3-1 in the final.

St Hilda’s was strong throughout the entire tournament, with notable big wins over Papanui (12-0) and St Margaret’s (7-0) during pool play.

King’s also produced a thrilling final, beating powerhouse St Bede’s College 6-5 in the final.

It was a significant win for the Dunedin school, reversing its 8-7 loss to the Christchurch school during pool play.

Otago Boys’ finished third in the boys’ grade and there was some good Otago representation in the mixed grade, with South Otago finishing fourth, Wakatipu fifth and Taieri seventh.

The schools will compete at the national secondary school championships in Rotorua in December.
