As it tries to take the Bates Shield off Southland at Ellis Park tomorrow, it is looking to deliver for ex-coach Aran Bailey, who died last week.
That has left the side with no shortage of motivation and, while new coach Tom Snow and assistant Jamie Robinson has been thrown in at short notice, Snow is optimistic about the team's chances.
``We know most of these young guys. We've known most of them for a few years now.
``Everybody's pulling in tight to try and get a result for Aran really.
``We've had some interest from some former players that want to come back in.
``The events of the last week haven't been ideal, but they have pulled people together and we really want to give it a good shot for him.''
The side held a retrial on Thursday night, with two players - yet to be confirmed - to come in.
That comes as a result of a rib injury to Jacob Wedlock and work commitments making Liam McLister unavailable.
However, Snow felt the team was looking strong, with some solid hitters and and a sharp fielding outfit.
It was a young side, although it had experience within that which would be key.
``It's the local derby match. Southland are our closest neighbours and biggest rivals really.
``It's been an ongoing competition for quite a number of years now.
``Southland have always beaten us over the last few years so it would be good to get our hands on it again.''
