As the Southern Motocross Series nears its final round of five on Saturday in Balclutha, Otago riders are dominating several classes.
Dunedin's Campbell King (19) is leading the senior under class and has won all but one of his 12 races.
Joel Meikle (16), of Oamaru, is fourth in this class but is comfortably winning his 12-16 years 85cc to 150cc class on 294 points. He has carded 10 first-place finishes and two second-place finishes in the junior competition.
Grason Veitch (11) has the same nearly unbeaten race record as King, with 11 victories to his name in the 8-11 years 85cc class. Fellow Dunedin rider Regan Turner is second, 31 points behind Grason.
His father, Dean, said Grason had a massive crash at the Gore round and although initially diagnosed with a broken wrist, the injury turned out not to be that serious and he was able to continue riding.
Alexandra's Bryn Gilbert is second in the 12-16 years 125-250cc class on 263 points, and Balclutha's Maddison Latta is third on 209 points.
The Balclutha round is at a property on Puerua Church Rd, off Waitepeka Rd, in Romahapa, and will host three races, plus a non-counting feature race.
