No 136: Lance Napper does the double (1965)
The Dunedin man won many national titles and represented New Zealand at two world championships.
His first big splash on the national scene came at the 1965 New Zealand billiards and snooker championships, at the Wellington RSA.
From a strong field - 16 in each event - Napper became just the third man to do the double when he claimed both the billiards and snooker titles.
He defended the snooker title at the national championships in Oamaru the following year, won the snooker title for a third time in Dunedin in 1968, and won a second billiards title in Christchurch in 1970.
The Dunedin title was won at the old Olympia Billiard Room, Napper's home turf.
Napper and Dick Flutey represented New Zealand at the world snooker championships in Australia in 1968. And Napper was New Zealand's sole representative at the world billiards championships in Malta in 1971.
