There will be more running than ever at the Ōtākou Golf Course today.
The Edmond Cup cross-country event has made its way down Otago Peninsula this year as the usual venue, the Wingatui Golf Course, is unavailable.
But the new track offers something different to keep runners on their toes, with sandy patches, groomed fairways and tough mounds to work through.
About 68 people had entered in the race, which was first held in 1907, as of noon yesterday across the different distances, which include the open 4km, 6km and 8km races.
Individual races also count towards a strong team component, with the first four competitive registered runners home from the same club winning the cup.
Junior races include an individual under-16 4km race, under-14 3km race and under-12 2km race.
There is also a fun run for athletes under 8 and an open 6km walk.
Racing starts at 2pm.
