The Warriors have signed former Australian second-rower Ryan Hoffman to a three-year deal reportedly worth $A1.6 million ($NZ1.7 million).

The 30-year-old had an offer to stay with Melbourne but was said to have fielded a more lucrative offer from the Warriors and will head to Mt Smart Stadium in 2015.

It is the first major new signing of the year for the Warriors. They are also keen on luring Kiwis hooker Issac Luke and former Kiwis centre Steve Matai.

Luke is contracted to the Rabbitohs until the end of 2015 but told the Herald that it would be "great to come home" and play for the Warriors at some stage.

Hoffman reportedly found the Warriors' offer too good to refuse. Melbourne announced yesterday they had re-signed Tohu Harris until the end of 2017 and they are also keen on keeping fellow second-rower and fellow Kiwi Kevin Proctor which is clouding the picture.

Hoffman has played more than 225 NRL games for the Storm and also had a stint with Wigan in the UK Super League in 2011 when he played alongside new Warriors fullback Sam Tomkins.

He's also turned out eight times for New South Wales and has played five tests for Australia, the last in 2012.

He enjoyed the golden period at Melbourne, playing in five NRL grand finals - two of their three wins were stripped for a breach of the salary cap - and also winning last year's World Club Challenge.

He's a hard-working and intelligent second-rower and his leadership and experience will be valuable to a side learning how to win games under interim coach Andrew McFadden.

The Warriors have money to spend after Kevin Locke announced he's shifting to Salford at the end of the season, although the club recently re-signed Simon Mannering, Jacob Lillyman and Shaun Johnson to upgraded new deals.

The club has yet to formally announce Hoffman's deal but that could come as early as today.
