Top-of-the-table Canterbury have Warriors star Sam Tomkins in the crosshairs for their NRL clash at Waikato Stadium on Sunday.

After a slow start to his first year in the NRL, Tomkins has begun to show the sort of form that made him a Super League superstar.

The Warriors have finally found their groove this season with back-to-back wins over Melbourne and Canberra, and a three-year contract for coach Andrew McFadden has been a further boost for the Auckland-based franchise this week.

McFadden has begun to get the best out of Tomkins since he took over in round six and Bulldogs fullback Sam Perrett says they are fully aware of that.

"His form has been fantastic and he is one of the players we really need to watch out for," Perrett said at training on Thursday.

"He has that genuine and natural speed and he is really elusive and dangerous during broken play.

"If we are not there as a defensive line he is going to cause us big problems.

"He is definitely one of their key players."

Tomkins' relationship with Warriors playmaker Shaun Johnson has evolved into a potent combination and is key to their attack, Perrett said.

"That happens with that consistency, you get that time with your teammates and you start building that combination and understanding," he said.

"You start getting to know one another.

"He (Tomkins) is definitely getting better and better."
