Goals aplenty for Dunedin Thunder in weekend double-header

The goals keep flowing for the Dunedin Thunder.

After scoring 14 across two games in its opening weekend, it added a further nine on Saturday in Christchurch.

That helped propel it to a 9-6 win over the Canterbury Red Devils in the first of its double-header matches.

The Thunder trailed early, but four consecutive goals gave it a buffer it never relinquished.

Petr Pospisil scored twice early for the Red Devils, poking one in after two minutes before a nice exchange in front of goal allowed him to double that after nine minutes.

Three minutes later Ben Harford pulled one back for the Thunder, assisted by Paris Heyd and Adam Stitely.

Regan Wilson then evened the score before the first break, connecting a well-hit shot from the left of the goal.

Stitley added one himself five minutes into the second period, before Paris Heyd made it 4-2 midway through to give the Thunder a buffer.

Brandon Muller hit back 30 seconds later for the hosts, but Matt Enright scored just before the break to restore the two-goal gap at 5-3.

The sides traded goals twice early in the third period.

Bradley Apps and Dean Tonks both pulled the margin back to one goal, but Heyd and Joe Orr hit back after each to restore the two-goal lead.

Harford then extended that to three and while the Red Devils hit back through Pospisil once more, Orr scored late to close out the game.

The Red Devils got one back over the Thunder with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win on Sunday to split the weekend.
