Northern men and Canterbury women have both booked their place in the finals of the national under-21 hockey tournament being held in Dunedin on Saturday.
Northern men comfortably beat a weaker Central side 5-2, to take their place in the final.
Midlands beat Canterbury to go closer to joining Northern in the men's final, having to secure only two points tomorrow against fifth-placed Capital.
Midlands looked to have the win sealed with two minutes left, leading 3-1.
Canterbury then went at Midlands with everything it had, but was only able to score once.
Southern and Auckland sits equal third and will play Southern today, with the winner guaranteed to make the third and fourth game on Saturday.
The Canterbury women came from behind to beat Auckland 2-1 and take their place in the final on Saturday.
The game look destined to end in a draw, with both sides going back and forth across the field and unable to score.
With 10 minutes to go the game lit up, with Auckland scoring a fantastic goal to take the lead, only to have Canterbury score from a penalty corner straight after.
Canterbury immediately scored again, taking the lead with only five minutes left.
Auckland took its goalie off to give it one more player in the midfield but was unable to find a goal, giving Canterbury the win and the place in the finals.
Southern women, who sit fourth, still have a chance to play for third place, if they beat Auckland today.
Both Southern teams had the bye yesterday.
In the other men's game, Auckland beat Capital in a shootout 4-1.
In the other women's games, Central beat Capital 4-3 in a shootout, and Midlands beat Northern 2-1.
