Alpiners men’s captain Sam Lane skipped last week’s game.

He returned to the national hockey league with vengeance scoring eight goals in two games in the Alpiners double-header weekend.

The Alpiners’ 7-0 win against the Mavericks on Saturday and their 6-2 win against the Tridents yesterday have booked them a spot in the league’s inaugural final.

George Baker started the Alpiners onslaught when he scored in the 19th minute against the Mavericks in Hamilton.

Lane then scored his first field goal, and the conversion, of the weekend to lead 3-0.

Jordan Ward put a great ball in space for Sam Lints in front of the goal who made no mistake, and banked the conversion too.

Less than a minute later, Lane snuck two more away to record a 7-0 victory.

They followed with a nice win against the Tridents.

James Nicholson tipped in a field goal, and nailed the subsequent conversion, for the Alpiners to lead 2-0.

Patrick Ward struck the ball inside for Lane to get on the end of and lead 3-0.

The Tridents hit back through Robbie Capizzi, who also finished the conversion to tighten the game at 3-2.

The Alpiners came alive in the final quarter.

Malachi Buschl tucked it in to the circle for Lane to finish, and banked the conversion to extend the lead. Lane scored with 1min left on the clock to finish 6-2.

The Alpiners women gained their first outright win against the Mavericks, scoring a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

They then lost 4-2 to the Tridents yesterday.

Jenna Rae McIntyre gave the Alpiners a 2-0 lead on halftime against the Mavericks, when she scored from the field and the conversion.

Alpiners keeper Kirsty Nation was busy and made some great saves.

The Mavericks eventually broke through in the fourth quarter through Sharnae Taylor and equalised through Lucy Russ deep in the fourth.

The Alpiners won a penalty corner with seconds to spare and responded through Millie Calder to win.

The Alpiners suffered a 4-2 loss to the Tridents in North Harbour.

Breana Catley scored a field goal and conversion and Petrea Webster and Sophie Hildesley added two more for the Tridents.

McIntyre and Mezzy Surridge scored for the Alpiners.
