The money is almost sorted.

Now it just a matter of hoping the bill has not gone up too much and figuring out whose name will be on the deed.

The Otago Hockey Association (OHA) has been granted $390,000 by the Otago Community Trust in its latest round of grants. It will go towards the planned $2.6million artificial hockey turf at King's High School.

OHA general manager Andy McLean said confirmation of the latest grant meant the bulk of the fundraising has been done.

"In recent times, the funding position has moved forward significantly," he said.

"It is now a matter of re-engaging with potential suppliers to confirm what the cost of the build might be and confirming arrangements with the DCC."

The Dunedin City Council was asked to take over the construction and ownership of the planned facility at its annual plan hearing in May in a joint submission by Otago Hockey, King's High School and Sport Otago.

"That discussion is ongoing and that is kind of where we are at, really."

McLean said he would meet the DCC on possible suppliers in the next few weeks.

"I hope we are not too far away, but those meetings I referred to are going to be key. We need to finalise exactly what the build cost is and work through what the DCC's involvement will be.

"It is a really important project to us obviously. We are well and truly at capacity down here at Harbour Terrace. Our competitions need to run through to 10 o'clock most nights and we desperately need to expand."

Playing numbers have grown from 1700 to 2700 in the past decade.

The DCC made a grant of $500,000 towards the project as part of the 2016-17 annual plan process.

The other major contributors are the New Zealand Lotteries Commission ($500,000) and the Lion Foundation ($200,000).
