Southland title to Kobori by six shots

With a final round of 68 yesterday morning, Kazuma Kobori (Rangiora) won the Southland men’s strokeplay championship on the Otatara course in Invercargill.

With a three-round aggregate of 209, Kobori finished six shots clear of Liam Balneaves (Greenacres). Ben Patston (Otago) was third and Blake Mason (Wanaka) fourth.

The women’s title was won by Jeong Hyun Lee (Christchurch) by an impressive 12-shot margin from Invercargill’s top player, Robyn Pullar.

National left-handed champion Ben Patston shot the best round on Saturday morning with 68 and shared the overnight lead with Kobori and Jeremy Hall (Greenacres), who both finished under the card in the afternoon.

Kobori won the $1250 voucher for the best male in the Canterbury, Otago and Southland stroke events and Dominic Brettkelly (Hororata) and Balneaves tied for second place.

Canterbury women dominated the Canterbury and Otago events but aggregate became a non-event when only Jeong Hyun Lee ventured South.

She finished 62 shots ahead of Pullar to take the $750 voucher as the top female.
