That was worth the wait.

The Otago Golf Club women have bragging rights over their Christchurch Golf Club counterparts — and it only took 122 years.

The clubs resumed a long-dormant rivalry at the Balmacewen at the weekend, competing in an interclub match for the first time since 1900.

Otago won both shields at stake.

The seniors won 10-2, and the friendlies squad won 10.5-1.5.

Otago dominated the senior foursomes, as Shelley Duncan and Libby Harper (1-up), Nicola Meder and Brenda Sutherland (4-up) and Julia Oliver and Carol Dalton (5-up) won their matches, and Sarah Rose and Alice Hunter halved theirs.

Duncan, Harper, Meder, Sutherland, Oliver and Hunter then won their Sunday singles matches, while Dalton halved hers.

"It was a great weekend, played in good humour," Duncan said.

"We are all looking forward to heading up to Christchurch next year to defend the shields."
