Errors on New Zealand Golf’s online live scoring have left many Otago fans perplexed and confused as to how their men’s and women’s teams are faring in this year’s tournaments.
The live scoreboard had Otago men’s No 2 Brandon Hodgson four up at the turn in his match against East Coast-Poverty Bay’s Nathaniel Cassidy yesterday.
According to the live scoring, Hodgson then showed some of his worst form, somehow losing seven of the next five holes to trail by three with four holes to play.
It then showed — to the relief of Otago supporters — Hodgson had recovered quickly, winning seven holes on the 15th to win by 4 and 3.
In the women’s event at Sherwood Park in Whangarei, Otago No 4 Abigael Crawford was posted as two behind Waikato’s Jill Morgan after 14 holes.
She had been one down during the front nine but she was actually two up and went on to post a crucial 3 and 2 win, helping Otago halve with the strong Waikato quintet.
The live scoring is a god-send for those who cannot be at New Zealand golf tournaments, but surely the national body has the resources to ensure more accuracy.
