She has got one over her male counterparts and proved to be the best of her crop.
Kang (14) won the under-19 grade at the Otago age-grade championships last weekend, winning by eight shots.
She played off the women’s tees and hit 74 and 70 over the two rounds to win with a score of 144 while Sebastian Kyle, of St Clair, was second on 152.
The field was not big but to win by such a big margin was impressive, especially over the males, on the testing Otago Golf Club course at Balmacewen.
Kang, who is a Wakatipu junior, has played provincial golf for Otago the past two of years and was named the Otago Eagles young golfer of the year.
It was not the first time she had at won the Otago age-grade championships. In Cromwell last year, she took on the boys and had a good win.
Her 2019 results culminated in selection at the top of the order for the Otago women’s team at the interprovincial tournament, at which Otago is a perennial battler, in December.
Kang starred with four wins from seven games at the week-long tournament in Hawke’s Bay and lost only to New Zealand representatives.
She had a big year planned, with trips overseas and events on the Charles Tour but that is all up in the air because of Covid-19.
In other results at the age-grade championships, Cromwell player Jonny MacKay backed up an outstanding 67 with a second-round 71 to win the under-23 title, ahead of clubmate Inia Logan on 144.
Wakatipu junior Jan Ebbinge, who shot two rounds of 77, was too consistent for clubmate Nicolas Cheifetz in the under-15 grade.
