Otago Blue captain Brandon Hodgson was the star player in this year's metropolitan senior A pennant series which finished with his team beating St Clair Blue in the final at Balmacewen on Saturday.
Hodgson (28) won all eight of his games to emerge as the only player to have a 100% success rate in the home-and-away series.
He has always shown ability with his shots but two years ago he was omitted from the Otago men's team for failing to close out matches.
Hodgson played at No2 for Otago in last year's national interprovincial tournament in New Plymouth where the team finished runner-up, losing to Wellington in the final.
It was evident during the pennant series that Hodgson not only outplayed his opponents but he got ahead early and did not allow them back into the game.
St Clair players Tony Giles and Ross Colquhoun were only other players to emerge unbeaten with 92% and 69% success rates respectively.
Giles is a former Otago No1 and New Zealand representative and he showed he has not lost his ability to play as he notched up five wins and one half from his six games.
In contrast, Colquhoun had a bizarre series, failing to win his first match until round six as he started with five halved games.
Colquhoun has a tested golfing pedigree as the son of former Otago representatives Colin and Cushla and his record helped St Clair Gold outperform the second Otago club team.
Island Park and Chisholm Links performed well this year and narrowly failed to make the final.
It was the fourth year the top Otago and St Clair teams had met in the final and they have two series wins each.
The dominance of Otago Blue team this year is clearly illustrated by five of the team members finishing in the top 10.
