While it was impressive, it was also short-lived and the AJ Hackett Bungy Queenstown sales manager quickly accepted an offer to hitch a ride on the back of the cart, just after Ko and fellow amateurs Sir Michael Hill, Rod Duke and Craig Heatley had teed off in the seeding tournament for the New Zealand PGA pro-am.
''It was a bit of an easy day, really. I was expecting to walk 18 holes and I ended up hitching on the back of the golf cart,'' Pearce said.
Ko, hitting off blue tees, went on to shoot an even round of 72, finishing with back-to-back birdies - an effort for which Pearce joked he was entitled to take some credit.
It was the first time the 34-year-old had caddied for Ko - or anyone else - having offered to carry her bag when he met her at his workplace last year.
The pair were reunited at The Hills on Wednesday afternoon. Three words from Lydia's mother Tina, ''Regan, your job'', saw the rookie caddy bolt for the car park to retrieve Ko's bag.
During a photo shoot on the putting green, Pearce proudly announced he ''gave her some advice on that one'' after she sunk a putt for the media.
Speaking to the ODT yesterday, Pearce said his nerves ahead of caddying for the teenage sensation were under control, though he now had a taste of what being part of the Ko show was like.
A small crowd of supporters stayed with Ko and her playing partners for the entire round yesterday, with a far greater number expected to stick with her over the weekend.
''When I play golf, I certainly don't have that many people following me ... it's pretty cool to have that sort of following.
''She's a superstar at the moment [and] she's a great person. For her age it's awesome to see how polite and well brought-up she is.''
