Golf: Chisholm Park rallying for quake aid

Chisholm Park Golf Club will hold a tournament this Sunday to raise money for victims of the Christchurch earthquake, and already prizes and entries are coming in.

The tournament was a way for golfers to help those in need in Christchurch, Chisholm Park professional Andrew Whiley said.

A quarter of the 60 teams needed for the ambrose event had already signed up.

Whiley said with the likes of school children already helping out, golfers could also do their bit to assist.

He had put the proposal of a fundraising tournament to his board which fully supported the concept.

Everyone would be assured of a prize.

A golf magazine would be giving away a subscription to every golfer who turned up.

The Kauri Cliffs course had donated two rounds of golf and the use of a cart as a prize, and other courses such as Jack's Point in Queenstown had also given prizes.

Whiley said all the other clubs in Dunedin were behind the tournament and would send teams.

He said the emphasis would be on raising funds, and golfers of any ability were welcome to enter.

Teams would be made up of four people.

It would cost $100 a team to enter, though players could donate more if they wished.

There would be two shotgun starts on Sunday, at 8am and 12.45pm.

The course, after rain of recent weeks, is in lush order, and Whiley hopes for a fine day.
