The selectors have taken the bold move of looking towards the future of Otago women's golf by naming four teenagers in the quintet to compete in the national interprovincial team tournament on the Sherwood Park course in Whangarei next month.
The matriarch of the team is St Clair's Susan Greig who will play at No3 as well as captain the team.
Otago women's teams have not had a good record in the national tournament in recent years and this move is expected to alleviate the problem in future, if not this year.
The selectors can take heart from the team's second-placing in the South Island team event at Balmacewen and welcome back Abigael Crawford who did not play because of university exam commitments.
Queenstown's Danielle Bailey (16) retains the No1 position after winning three of her four games in the South Island event.
No2 Annabel Evans (16) has amassed some experience having been involved in the national event since she was 13 years old.
Evans won two matches and halved one in the South Island event, losing only to a strong Canterbury opponent.
Greig (44) has been the standout of the older players this year, qualifying top and winning the Otago matchplay championship. She also won the champion of champions title for the sixth year.
Greig will compete in her 15th interprovincial event and bring up a tally of 100 games this year.
Abigael Crawford (19) has played in the interprovincial for four years and should find the No4 berth to her liking having played at one, two and three previously.
Sumin Kang (12), of Wakatipu Junior, is the baby of the team and will be at No5 after having a 50% record in the South Island tournament.
She attends Queenstown Primary School and could match Balmacewen professional Shelley Duncan as one of the youngest Otago players to compete in the event.
Reserve Tracey Storer played in the Toro in 2012 and 2015 and will be a valuable fill-in if required after being runner-up to Greig in the Otago championships.
