Otago player  Ryan Bellamy’s representative season is up in the air after breaking bones in his hand over the weekend.

Bellamy was forced to withdraw from the Chisholm Links tournament last Sunday after  he caught his hand in a slammed sliding door on Saturday night.

Bellamy (23) will be in a cast for six weeks and will miss the next three trials events as well as the interprovincial against Southland at the end of next month.

"I will then have to play in every event I can if I am to have any chance of being selected," he said.

He was the reserve for Otago at last year’s national interprovincial tournament when the team finished second to Wellington in New Plymouth.

The accident is even more disappointing as he has been in top form during the past month and is keen to make the playing quintet this year.

He finished 5-under-par with 63 and 68 at Roxburgh 10 days ago, beating local junior Daniel Arneson by one shot.

Bellamy was looking forward to the Chisholm Links event as he was the top triallist last year with rounds of 71 and 70.

He was the only contender for Otago selection to make the semifinals of the Otago matchplay championship last year, losing to Southlander Jeremy Hall in the final.

Bellamy finished in a tie for fifth on 299 in the 72-hole North Otago spring tournament which helped him become the Otago reserve.

Before being put in a cast, Bellamy withdrew from the Chisholm Links event as he was not able to hold on to a club, let alone swing.

He is working with father Richard installing aluminium windows in Christchurch houses and continues to work despite being in a cast.

"I am on light duties for the next six weeks but the work still has to be done."
