The big guns rolled out at Tahuna Park on Saturday, where 15 goals were scored as teams warmed up for Footballsouth's premier league next month.
Technical striker Aaron Burgess posted warning of his intent to repeat the scoring which won his Golden Boot last year with 32 goals, when he hit Dunedin Technical's first goal against Green Island.
Technical dominated a young Island side, in which Dan Rutter tried to rally his troops but could not prevent a 5-0 loss.
A more surprising five-goal tally was notched by Northern, in beating Mosgiel 5-1.
In a more even encounter, Roslyn-Wakari beat University 3-1.
Northern finished third bottom in last year's 11-team premier league, and has hopes of great improvement this year.
There was a sprinkling of new personnel around, notably University's appointment of Brazilian Luiz Uehara and Englishman Terry Parle as a senior coaching partnership.
Better known as a futsal organiser, James Vaughan has taken over the reins at Roslyn, while former coach Terry Boylan has headed for Caversham and former Roslyn No 2 Richard Roberts has taken up refereeing.
Local referee Dave Langley supervised officials at Tahuna and was pleased to see a new qualified official, Edward Cook, arrive from Wellington to help boost local numbers.
Cook has experience of refereeing in London and joined the group of officials, Jeff Clamp, Khomutso Nare and David O'Hare, who are also using the pre-season tournament to get up to speed for winter football.
