Eight teams in cup ties

Eight teams from the South will be in action in this weekend’s Chatham Cup second round.

The four games will be played on Monday, meaning the teams will back up after playing league matches today.

Roslyn-Wakari will host Queenstown Rovers at Ellis Park in what looks to be the pick of the games.

The teams are placed fourth and third respectively on the Southern Premier League table, although Roslyn-Wakari has a game in hand.

Caversham, which last year reached the quarterfinal stage, faces Otago University at Tonga Park.

Unbeaten so far this season, Caversham is laden with Southern United players and should have too much for the University side.

However, University has two wins from its five league games this year and is in the mix of the congested mid-table pack.

Meanwhile, top-of-the-table Green Island, which has played one more game than Caversham, plays bottom-of-the-table Northern.

With four wins and a draw, Green Island will be heavily favoured to beat a Northern side that has a goal difference of -21 through five games.

In the final match, Dunedin Technical, which has had four draws from five games, is set to host Southland’s West End.

In the women’s knockout cup, Roslyn-Wakari, which tops the local women’s league table, plays Otago University in the curtain-raiser to the Chatham Cup game.

Dunedin Technical will play the Queenstown Rovers.
