Another product of southern football is starting to turn some heads overseas.
Former Otago Boys’ High School pupil Oliver Colloty has had trials with a bunch of English clubs.
Colloty, a prolific striker, had trials with Sheffield Wednesday, Fleetwood, Blackpool and Bolton.
He was all set to make his debut at under-21 level for Sheffield Wednesday, top of the table in third-tier League One, but a hamstring injury prevented that happening.
It has been reported that two of the other clubs were particularly keen on the 19-year-old New Zealander.
Blackpool is battling in the second-tier Championship, while Bolton is fifth in League One.
Colloty’s talent emerged at a young age at Otago Boys’, and he was just 15 when he made his debut for Southern United in the old national league.
He headed north, and has scored 20 goals in 31 games for the Melville United club.
Last year, he scored two goals in the final to lead the New Zealand team to victory at the Oceania under-19 tournament.
Colloty finished with nine goals in six games at the tournament.
