Former Otago top order batter Kevin Burns died at home in Queenstown on Monday night.
The 63-year-old had been battling cancer.
Burns played 57 first-class games for Otago between 1980 and 1992. The left-hander also had one game for the New Zealand Cricket Council President’s XI.
In total he scored 2729 runs at an average of 29.03, including three centuries. He also played 31 list A games for his province.
Burns was in the Otago team which won the first-class competition in 1985-86 and the side which won both the Shell Trophy and Shell Cup in 1987-88.
Burns’ former team-mate Ken Rutherford described him as "an integral part of Otago teams" through the 1980s and early 1990s.
"A damn good team man. A man of few words, but when he spoke all listened."
Burns is survived by his wife Lynne and children Henri, Jack and Maggie.
