Waitaki fall short in chasing St Kevin’s

The latest round of Borton Cup cricket produced victories for Oamaru, Union and St Kevin’s College.

St Kevin’s beat Waitaki Boys’ by 30 runs in a tightly fought match.

Batting first, St Kevin’s posted 185 for nine from their 50 overs, Jack Kelly top-scoring with 67.

Flynn Sanford provided a valuable late contribution, adding 30 runs towards the end of the innings.

Billy Wilson (two for 21), Jayden Dowling (two for 19) and Blake White (two for 39) were the pick of the bowlers for Waitaki.

In reply, Waitaki Boys’ managed 155 all out in 44 overs.

Dowling led the chase with 42, while Angus Isbister added 27 and Riley White 20, but despite their efforts, Waitaki fell short of the required target.

Jacob Fowler starred with the ball for St Kevin’s, taking four for 22, while Kelly chipped in with two for 31 and Hamish Fowler two for 39.

Oamaru dominated with the bat against Valley, amassing 288 for seven in their 50 overs.

Hunter Wardle (68) and Stephan Grobler (65) played key roles, supported by Jordan Bartlett (35), Quinn Wardle (32), Nick Johnston (23) and Matt Brien, who hit a quickfire 35 not out off just 10 balls.

Valley’s bowlers, led by George Franklin (two for 48), Ben Kay (two for 53) and Jack Cameron (two for 66), struggled to contain Oamaru’s aggressive batting.

In response, Valley were bowled out for 176.

Reuben Simpson top-scored with 41, but Jack Price (33) and Glynn Cameron (31) could not build on their starts.

Oamaru’s Asanka Gamlathge took two for 14, and Grobler finished the match with two wickets for zero runs.

Union celebrated captain Blake James’ 100th senior match with a 79-run win over Glenavy.

James top-scored with 53, Matt Lilley added 34, and Scott Kitto scored 27 in Union’s 180 all out, while Glenavy’s Hamish McCulloch took four for 28 and Ross McCulloch four for 26.

Glenavy collapsed for 101 in reply, Brad Fleming claiming five for 14 and Kitto three for 17. For Glenavy, Harry Murphy scored 23, the only player to reach double figures.
