Kaikorai bowlers demolish Taieri batsmen to win

Taieri 36 lost to Kaikorai 38 for
four by six wickets

The match started at 11am and about 90 minutes later was all over as the bowlers ruled the roost at  Bishopscourt on Saturday.

Taieri won the toss and decided to bat which in hindsight was the wrong decision.

It lost its first wicket with the second ball and Otago left-arm Chinaman bowler Michael Rippon proved near on impossible to play as Taieri was dismissed for a mere 36 runs.

Kaikorai opened with Rippon and, as in a previous match between the two sides, the former South African had proved a handful for the Taieri side.

He had the Taieri batsmen at his mercy and picked up a cheap five-wicket bag. Josh Finnie, with his more orthodox spin, was also dangerous and picked up three cheap wickets.

Taieri was all out in the 18th over. Kaikorai also had its own issues in chasing the total and lost four wickets as it went hard at the target, getting the win at the start of the eighth over.

Taieri spinner Ben Lockrose picked up three wickets and the home team hardly sprinted over the line. It was not the lowest score recorded by Taieri in senior cricket.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 180 beat
Green Island 110 by 70 runs.

A good all-round effort from Otago seamer Nathan Smith aided Carisbrook-Dunedin in an important win over Green Island at Sunnyvale.

Green Island has to be in good form of late but this loss brings it back to the pack.

The visiting team batted first and though no single player dominated with the bat, it still did enough to get through to 180. Camden Hawkins scored 47 and Smith hit 29 as Carisbrook-Dunedin took its time to get to 180. Christi Viljeon helped himself to four wickets and Gregor Croudis took three wickets.

In reply, Green Island got off to a poor start, losing its first three wickets with just six runs on the board, all taken by Smith.

Mark Joyce and Dion Lobb came together when Green Island lost its eighth wicket at just 54 and managed to get the side into three figures.

But Lobb went out and then Smith came back to bowl Joyce and give Carisbrook-Dunedin the victory.

Smith picked up a five-wicket bag while Kurt Johnson grabbed two wickets.

Albion 237 lost to NEV 248 for
three wickets by seven wickets.

Albion must have been confident at the change of innings in its game against North East Valley at Logan Park on Saturday.

But it was not to be after an impressive batting display by North East Valley.

Albion notched up a competitive 237 when it batted first.

Otago Volts player Shawn Hicks batted well to score a century and Tim Ford chipped in with 56.

But the Valley side paced its run chase beautifully. Hunter Kindley helped set it up with 31 but the partnership between Adam Miles and Ruan Markram, worth 103 runs, paved the way to victory.

Tom Griffin came in to help Markram get the side home. Markram finished unbeaten on 97 as North East Valley secured victory with seven balls to spare.
