Cricket: Other commitments mean no fanfare

There will not be any civic fanfare for the Otago team following its win in the national twenty/20 tournament.

The Dunedin City Council had planned to celebrate the victory with a mayoral reception yesterday, but Otago Cricket declined the invitation saying too many of its key personnel were unable to attend.

"Given that we had six players not here, the agreement was that we would not have it," the association's chief executive, Ross Dykes, said.

Opener Aaron Redmond and coach Mike Hesson are in Queenstown with New Zealand A, Brendon McCullum, Neil Broom and Ian Butler in Napier with the Black Caps, Dimitri Mascarenhas is linking up with the England one-day side and one other player was also unable to make it.

Otago's next match is a four-dayer against Wellington at the University Oval beginning on Friday.
