Rachin Ravindra’s eyes light up when he talks about one-day cricket.

It is a format the Black Caps all-rounder puts in bold at the top of his list and luckily for him he gets another shot tomorrow when the Black Caps meet Sri Lanka in their first ODI of the series at his home ground, Basin Reserve in Wellington.

"I’d probably say one day cricket is my favourite format," Ravindra said.

"Just because I’ve grown up watching World Cups and seen New Zealand do well on that stage.

"It’s a format where you can just play your game, and do that for a long period, and hopefully build a score and set a platform for the boys, especially being at the top.

"So I’m excited for that."

The Black Caps come into the ODI series after winning the T20 series 2-1 against Sri Lanka.

Ravindra finished with 69 from 39 balls in the final game in Nelson on Thursday and the Wellington local will hope to continue that form in front of a home crowd.

"Love playing in Wellington.

"Love playing at the Basin.

"I’ve heard there’s less than 600 tickets left ... hopefully [it will be] another sell-out.

"We know how well that test match atmosphere [against England] was that [at the] Basin and hopefully we can replicate that for white ball."

Tom Latham, Will Young, and Will O’Rourke return to the ODI squad, in place of Tim Robinson, Zac Foulkes and Bevan Jacobs who drop out from the T20 series.

While it was handy to have experience return, the younger group impressed Ravindra, 25, during their first taste of international cricket on home soil.

"It’s nice to have that young guys come in — I mean, I’m still young in my international career of course — but it’s cool to see those fresh faces," Ravindra said.

"You always like to see guys making debuts and making impacts early on in their career, because it shows where the team’s going.

"I think the talent and depth in New Zealand Cricket at the moment is really cool.

"It’s a testament to the domestic game, but also the support staff environment and the way guys are able to come in and express themselves.

"I’m excited to see hopefully another couple of less experienced guys do their thing."

Nathan Smith, who did not play during the T20 series remains with the team, as does Otago’s Jacob Duffy.

Duffy was superb in the T20 series, finishing the series with figures of three for 21 — including the over that swung the opening game in the Black Caps favour — four for 15 and one for 30.
