Bam!

The Otago Sparks snapped a two-year drought in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield with a record 213-run win on Saturday and backed up yesterday with another comfortable victory.

The Central Hinds got blindsided on Saturday by a rampant Sparks side in Nelson.

Veteran White Ferns keeper Katey Martin blasted an unbeaten 111.

New recruit Kate Ebrahim fashioned an undefeated 96 in her Otago debut and shared in two substantial partnerships.

The first was a 118-run stand with the unheralded Bella James (53).

Then she teamed up with Martin to put on an unbroken stand of 159 from 127 deliveries.

Martin’s knock came off just 74 balls. She whacked 14 fours and a six in a withering attack.

It was her seventh list A hundred and perhaps one of her most impressive. She also went past 6000 career list A runs.

Seamer Emma Black did the rest. She took a career-best five for 28 to help dismiss the Hinds for a paltry tally of 78.

Eighteen-year-old Molly Loe was outstanding as well. She took three for seven from five overs.

What made the win so astonishing was the Sparks had gone two years, eight months and 13 days without posting a win in the competition.

They had strung together 21 consecutive losses. That streak started with heavy back-to-back losses against the Hinds, so there was symmetry in the result.

Coach Craig Cumming said he was thrilled with the effort.

"Everyone stood up at different times during the two days," he said.

"I’m really pleased that the work we put in during the preseason has paid dividends when it comes to what we are trying to do in the game of cricket.

"The results just gives the girls a bit of belief. It just shows we’ve been working on the right things."

Yesterday, Martin was back in charge.

The 36-year-old right-hander made 49 not out. But Polly Inglis was that star with 68 from 72.

Caitlin Blakely chipped in with 34 to help her side post 265.

The home team lost the early wicket of Jess Watkin (17) and Kerry-Anne Tomlinson (14) was not able to cash-in on her start either.

Otago spinner Eden Carson kept her side on top with a tight seven over opening spell. She finished with three for 31 from 10.

That spell created more pressure and eventually Cate Pedersen succumbed. She had played patiently for her 39, but just as she was looking to play with more freedom she was bowled by leg spinner Sophie Oldershaw.

Gemma Sims (36) and Mikaela Greig (33) battled hard but Black ripped through the middle order to snaffle three for 23 in another top performance.

The Hinds were bowled out for 183 to lose by 82 runs.
