Alert the hardware stores - the Australian cricket team is coming.

The side will be playing a twenty20 game at the University of Otago Oval on March 24 next year, so there is still plenty of time to stock up on sandpaper.

That joke will never get old.

It will mark the first time the Australian team has visited the city since 2000. That time fast bowler Brett Lee drew the ire of the Carisbrook crowd.

This time David Warner and Steve Smith are likely to be positioned as the villains for their role in sandpaper-gate, the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa last year.

The game is the second of two internationals being hosted in the city next summer.

The White Ferns will play their first international in Dunedin since 1999 when they host South Africa in a twenty20 match on February 13.

It will be the first twenty20 international hosted here.
