Sam Timmins and Isaiah Moss fill two of the top three spots in the league’s Most Valuable Player voting ladder.

The duo have 55 and 53 points respectively — out of a possible 80 — with Nelson’s Hunter Hale separating them on 54.

Coaches allocate points to five players — from five to one — following each game.

At the end of the season the top 10 are eligible for the final MVP vote, decided by coaches and an independent panel.

The early season totals reflect the quality Timmins and Moss have shown for the Nuggets.

They have helped the side to a 5-3 record, which leaves it third on the table.

Timmins has been the league’s best big man posting 23.1 points, 13.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.

Moss has averaged 21.4 points per game and has shown his ability to score from anywhere in virtually any situation.

Trailing them is Wellington Saints guard Dion Prewster, who also stakes a strong claim for the title of league’s best player this season.

His 48 points have come from six games, two fewer than the Nuggets, and he has been influential in the side’s dominant unbeaten run.

He is going at 24.2 points per game, behind only fifth-placed MVP vote-getter Josh Selby (Franklin Bulls) on 24.4 and Hale on 28.1.

Two Southland Sharks — whom the Nuggets play in Dunedin on Saturday night — players also appear in the top 10.

Dom Kelman-Poto is sixth on 40 points, while Brayden Inger has 37 points.

Chris Johnson (Auckland Huskies) 40 points, Deshon Taylor (Canterbury Rams) 39 points and Marcel Jones (Taranaki Mountainairs) 36 points are the other players in the top 10.

  • The Bulls confirmed Selby will head back to the US after sustaining an injury against the Nuggets last Thursday.
