Jose Perez should touch down in Dunedin this weekend if everything works out as planned.

Then it is show time.

The 26-year-old American has signed with the Otago Nuggets for the 2025 season.

He hails from the Bronx in New York and had a complicated NCAA career, bouncing around a bunch of different division-one colleges.

Perez had a stint at the Marquette Golden Eagles and the Arizona Sun Devils which are strong programmes.

Following his college career he had a short stint in the Dominican Republic and had a preseason in Serbia.

Nuggets coach Mike Kelly is looking forward to seeing what he can deliver.

"He’s got a lot of skills that I think will help this team," Kelly said.

"He’s a legit scorer but he can also pass the ball.

"He’s played at a high level and has been successful and has a great feel for the game."

"I think he gives us someone who is versatile but also has the ability, when we need a basket, to get the ball to him and let him go to work.

"He’s got a little personality and I think you’ll see that on the floor as well. One of the coaches called him a gamer, so that is what we are hoping he brings."

"He loves to compete."

The Nuggets roster is starting to thicken.

Perez joins the likes of Matt Bardsley, Darcy Knox, Josh Aitcheson and Jono Janssen.

The other two import slots remain vacant, however.

At the top of the wish list is a player who will give the Nuggets some inside presence, protect the hoop and rebound.

They were missing that type of player last season.

Finding a point guard who can score might be even more important.
