Another week, another dominant display.
The St Kilda Saints made it six in a row on Saturday in the men’s club competition at the Edgar Centre.
They dispatched the City Rise Bombers 96-69 to move to 6-1 for the season, having not lost since opening day.
In that time, no other team has come within 20 points of them.
As they have done all season, the Saints built a lead and consistently extended it.
They led 28-23 at the end of the first quarter and extended that to 49-38 at the halftime.
The Saints won the third quarter 26-13 to take the game away from the Bombers, opening
a 76-51 gap, before cruising through to the end.
Their combination of size and mobility has made them tough to cover all season.
Their scoring spread, and different ways of scoring within that, has meant defences have been unable to lock in on just one player or thing.
Jamie MacDonald top-scored with 19 points on Saturday.
Saints also got 15 points from each of James Ross and Tyler Lapham, while Lawson Morris-Whyte and Finn Barclay added 14 and 12.
Steve Robinson top-scored for the Bombers, most of his 18 points coming in the first half.
But only Josh O’Connell (14 points) and Tom Davison (10 points) were able to join him in double-figures.
The Mid City Magic closed out a tight one to beat the Andy Bay Falcons 67-60.
The Falcons had led 32-20 midway through the second quarter, as the Magic struggled to get its offence going.
However, a 12-0 run by the Magic tied the score at halftime and it took the lead shortly after.
The Falcons hit back again through returning star Hamish Robertson (10 points) and big man Harry Thorp (14 points) to take a 52-48 lead into the last quarter.
But the Magic executed down the stretch.
It remained close until the dying stages, before centre Aaron Roydhouse (14 points) came up with several key plays to allow the Magic to emerge the winner.
In the early game, the Magic Lions had 23 points apiece from Nathan Hanna and Andy Armstrong to beat Varsity 87-70.
