Instead, the 25-year-old will be dealing with brutal heat, insane traffic, spicy food and omnipresent security as well as infuriated glances from frustrated netballers.
Bredin is one of three New Zealand umpires appointed to officiate at the Delhi Games in October.
Initially, Bredin was not selected but got the call when Bronwyn Meek had to pull out because of an injury.
"I didn't think I was going to be going and when I got the call it was a great surprise," he said.
That was Wednesday and things have been frantic since.
"I've had about 100 emails and I've got a whole lot of shots to get next week.
"I'm quite comfortable in my ability on the court but I'm a little apprehensive until everything falls into place in terms of the arrangements. But that will happen."
"Out of the New Zealand umpires I finished ranked third after the ANZ Championship. So I was pretty pleased with that."
While the Games posting came as a surprise, Bredin has made rapid progress since being approved to officiate at international level 12 months ago.
He already has "about 16 tests" under the belt, but they have been in matches involving the lesser netball nations.
His first "big" assignment will come next week when he umpires in the first of three tests between Australia and Jamaica - a series he is keenly anticipating.
But it was the Commonwealth Games occupying his thoughts yesterday.
"It is always interesting when you are at a tournament to see the different styles clash head on.
And India are competing for the first time in an international event.
So it will be interesting to see how they get on."
The other New Zealand umpires selected for the Games are Bobbi Brown, from Southland, and Mandy Nottingham, from Canterbury.
